Ø  Day 1- Data Analytics and Microsoft Power Bi:

o    Data Visualization-It Is the Graphical Representation of Quantitative information Graphical Visuals are easier for human brains to understand.

o    "William Playfair " in 1786, Scottish engineer and political economist Considered as Father of Statistical Graphics, Bar, Pie-Chart Etc.

Ø  Day 2- Data Cleaning and Transformation:

o    Data cleaning and transformation (Individual File)

o    How to remove column: - use first row as header.

o    How to remove NA: - click header – in list go to NA – remove tick -- click ok.

o    How to filter the blank rows: - click header – in list go to blank – remove tick – click OK.

o    Data cleaning and transformation (Combine File)

o    How to combine file: - click append queries – click A.Q. As new – dialogue box – select table – click OK.

o    How to rename query: - double click query – write name – click enter.

o    How to remove error: - correct error in original file – open power query editor file – click refresh button.

o    Applied steps: - it shows summary whatever we have do till now.

o    How to save change: -click close & apply – home page of power query editor file window will open – click save the file.

Ø  Day 3-Microsoft Power BI and Its Features:

o    First of all, Dr. Sameer started with Use of Visualizations panels.

o    After He select the charts on blank page and make line charts and Clustered Column charts.

o    In Microsoft Power BI, X-Axis Called as Axis and Y-Axis Called as Values.

o    Data Visualization Steps

o    Open Project-Population-Start

o    On bottom - Click on + Name the page as Overview.

o    Data Visualization

o    How to Create Chart: - Visualization – Click on Line chart.

o    How to Add Information in Chart: - Click on Line chart – Click Dim-Region – Region name – Drag this into – Field option – Legend.

o    Click Fact Population – Population – Drag this into – Field option – Values.

o    Click Fact Population – Population Female – Drag this into – Field option – Tooltips.

o    Click on Fact Population – Population Male – Drag this into – Field option – Tooltips.

o    Add another chart into the same canvas.

o    Click on the outside of the Line Chart.

o    How to Create New Chart: - Visualization – Clustered Column Chart.

o    How to Add Information in Chart: - Click Clustered Column Chart – Click Dim-Region – Region name – Drag this into – Axis.

o    Click Dim-Region – Country – Drag this into – Axis.

o    Click Fact-Population – Population – Drag this into – Values.    

o    Tooltips are giving a detail information of the data point on the charts/visuals.

o    Interaction Function is selecting an item in a visual will effect on the display of another charts.

o    Interaction are two types like Right to left and left to Right.

o    In power BI clicking on the none button, we can stop the interaction function.

o    After we learning about hierarchy function.

o    Hierarchy function include drill up,

o    Dr. Sameer is giving idea about how power BI have easy and quick operate the function.

o    Helpful To Everyone to Operate Anywhere.

o    Last function of the today workshop is Format Function.

o    Format Function is useful for customize the data on the chart like title, color, border, zoom slider and many more facilities.

o    Zoom slider facility is available from the last 6 months of power BI.

o    After Dr. Sameer give answer of the students and faculty member and end the today workshop.

Ø  Day 4- Slicer:

o    Meaning of Slicer

o    When to use slicer

o    Types of Slices:

§  List

§  Drop Dow

§  Between

§  Less than or equal to

§  Greater than or equal

o    Types of filters

§  Report level filter

§  Page level filter

§  Visual level filter

§  Filtering slicer

§  Formatting slicer

Ø  Day 5-Calculated Columns and Measures:

o    Difference between slicer and filter is that slicer is convenient and dynamic whereas filters are static.

o    Calculated columns and measures are part of DAX (data analysis expression)

o    Calculated columns is a column which is having a value which has been calculated.

o    There are three views: Report view, Data view and Model view.

o    Data view show data set and in model view you can create relation/connection among tables.

o    By clicking table tools and then new columns a new column can be created

o    In formula bar you can write formula that you want to calculate.

o    To transfer data of one table to another both the tables should be connected that can be done in model view.

o    Identify common field in both tables and connect those fields.

o    Measures shows only one single value such as total population, total salary, total sales.

o    Measures are very helpful in dashboards and reports.

o    Five measures are created – total population, average population, female population, male population and percentage of female population in total population.

o    Difference between calculated column and measures is calculated column show one value of each record/row whereas measures show only one single value.

Ø  Feed back of the students (Link)-

The workshop was perceived to be an excellent opportunity by most of the participants through which they learnt practical aspects of theory and new tools taught in Business Analytics. The day wise systemic distribution of content presentation including Data Cleaning and transformation, Graphs and Visualization, Slicing and Filtering followed by Calculated Column And Measure Columns were taught at a very good pace and most of the participants were able to easily comprehend the presented content. Even for the working professionals including alumni, faculty and staff members they’ve learnt a new tool by which they can effectively present their data for research or business presentations. Overall, the event was a great platform for bridging the gap between the businesses applications of the theoretical aspects covered in the curriculum.

Student participation in Solvay India Open House

Venue : Solvay Specialities India Pvt Ltd, Panoli Date     :     13 Dec 2017     As per the invitation from Solvay Specialities Pvt Ltd, 8 students and 2 faculties from Narmada college of Management participated in the “Open House” event organised by Solvay, on 13 th of December. Dr Chetna Makwana (associate professor) and Prof Rashmi Ghamawala (assistant professor) along with 8 students (from different specialisation) visited the company. The event started sharp at 10 am, where students and faculties of different colleges of Bharuch district were present, namely, SVMIT, KJ Polytechnic etc, along with the employees and staff of Solvay. All the participants were welcomed by Pratish Koparkar, who warmly welcome with his delightful words and starting off the briefing about various safety measures that need to be taken care of.
