'Insight Talks' - Thinking out of the
box
Introduction:
Graduating as an MBA opens up a plethora of
opportunities. Campus placements are the most sought-after option for many.
However, it also often limits the participants to look beyond the "Red
Ocean" and explore the "Blue Ocean" territories. A webinar was conducted
by Business Standard on 19th June, 2021 regarding the other options
an MBA graduate can explore beside campus placements. The panellists in the webinar discussed options such as
startups, small businesses, and freelance consulting. The panellists also
talked about how students and new MBA graduates can strengthen their
employability and also the earning quotient.
The Panel Discussion
was moderated by Mr. Srimanto Bhattacharya. He is the Co-Founder and Partner of
Spearhead InterSearch.

Dr. Sandeep K. Krishnan, Senior Partner, People Business and
Visiting Faculty - IIMA
Prof. Dr Jyotsna Bhatnagar, Dean, Graduate Programs & Student
Affairs, MDI Gurgaon
Mr.Praveen Nair, Head – Talent, Meesho and
Ms. Parul Khanna, Chief Marketing Officer, METRO Cash and Carry India.
Mr. Srimanto
Bhattacharya opened the webinar by providing an introduction on Business
standard and about him. He explained how infinite opportunities are now
available as compared to their times. Next, every panel member introduced
themselves and addressed different questions asked by attendees.
Questions from
attendees:
1.
Ms Parul Khanna:
She addressed
various questions asked by attendees. A question related to direct marketing
was asked on which she explained how they can do marketing digitally and even
can learn it digitally. The next question was related to B2B and B2C market on
which she explained channels are immaterial the main focus is to give on
customer want, how to reach them, target audience etc. One last question she addressed
was, is sales/operation is good option to begin with on which she respond it is
good to begin with sales/operation it is highly recommended.

Prof. Dr Jyotsna Bhatnagar:
During introduction
she told audience to focus on purpose you have, be patience, focus on happiness
and refuse to get distraction. First question asked to her by attendees was on
diversity on which she explained diversity is much more than man and women
working together it include differently abled, LGBTQ, demographic diversity and
multi generational diversity. She explained there will be bias but you have to
train yourself for bias. The next question was related on how to groom a leaders
on which explained you should be authentic leader and humble.

Dr. Sandeep K. Krishnan:
Initiating his
discussion he gave key input mantras: Act and Engage. There was a question
regarding top tier B-school on which he addressed that there is initial
advantage of being in top B-school but you can develop skills and go for
upcoming jobs it’s the matter of time and effort. He also added on the topic on
grooming leader that experience make leader and he used to ask his students to
do interview of startup CEO and observe them.
4.
Mr. Praveen Nair:
He addressed a
question on what are the key ingredients needed by MBA in digital startup? He
explained you need to constantly skill yourself, bring analytical skill and
create sale. Find out which skill recruiter want and try to upskill yourself.
The next question was, are online courses effective on which he addressed that
only certificate doesn’t carry any value you need to practice your learning.
Application is important it adds value.
